Anybody remember these? When I bought my first computer (well, second actually after my vic20), an Amiga 500, I didn’t think there was any point in having a color screen. I got a green high-persistance apple iii monitor to connect to it so that I could run in interlaced mode and get 2x as much text on the screen.

Those were the days…

Taking into account recovery time between signals, the optic nerve has a total bandwidth of approximately 100 kbps.

I think the bit he’s missing here is Choice. Humans can point their eyeballs, so in order to fulfill the demands of the 100 kbps optic nerve you must put up a lot of information where they MIGHT look.

An example of this is photography. Why is it that photographs are so compelling? One reason, I believe, is that it’s frozen and magnified. You can EXAMINE a photograph. A live scene is always changing, always demanding attention. You are not free to direct your attention.

Or something like that…
