Check out the guy on the left. He didn’t link to it directly himself, but here it is.

rss2email
January 28, 2006Problem: I want to get email when somebody posts a new comment on flickr where I have posted comments in the past.
I fished around in my profile and account settings for a bit and could not find a bit to flip to enable getting email for this. I did find a page that shows my comments and what has been posted since I was there.
http://www.flickr.com/photos_comments.gne
And, like every page (it seems) on flickr there is a feed link. I searched around for about 10 minutes and found the rss2email. Following the easy direction (“unix” directions on my mac), I had it set up in about 2.35 minutes. (That’s an approximation.)
The only hitch was that I didn’t already have wget installed. With a quick “fink install wget” that was solved. Of course, I already had fink installed and ready to go.

Golden Gate Sunsets
January 25, 2006This map is what I wanted when I lived over there. But now I’m not there.

my brother switched
January 23, 2006He bought a new dual core, intel-based iMac. I’m jealous.
Maybe I’m having a positive influence on him after all.

Google Earth
January 16, 2006Well call me a slow poke, but I’ve just discovered Google Earth.
WOW.
Now I’m all hot to try and do some geotagging on flickr for photos in Hawaii, but geobloggers is down while Dan gets into his new groove at flickr corp.

Trip35 Fixing
January 13, 2006Well, I opened up my trip following these instructions, but it didn’t get me to the aperture. I’m afraid the best way to fix this is gonna be to buy a “new” one off of ebay and hope it doesn’t have the same problem.

Olympus Trip 35
January 13, 2006Check it out! Somebody started a Trip 35 blog.
I’m posting this in the hope that somebody finds it and answers my question: How do I fix the aperture in my camera to make it UNsticky? I have a problem where sometimes the aperture won’t open as much as it should (underexposure) when taking a shot. After taking a shot I can see that it doesn’t close all the way back down (potential overexposure on the next shot).
I love this camera and am really frustrated that I can’t use it because of this simple problem.
(I can get it to close again by swinging over to f/22 and then back to A or f/2.8, but there’s nothing I can really do to get it to open as much as it should when taking a shot.)

Guam Bloggers?
January 13, 2006Looks like a pretty low-key attempt to gather together Guamish (as Pinky would say) bloggers. I think by blogging this, I’ll show up in links that post.
To make this a Guam-related post:
Last weekend Paul and John stopped by here (Oahu) on their way to SFO where they’re gonna be doing something technical for MCV. Paul, John and I were the ones who brought the Internet to Guam in ‘93 when we started up Kuentos. I commented to them as we were driving down Ala Moana Blvd on our way to the Apple store that it was weird for me realizing that everybody now uses the internet, and many of my younger friends (we’re talking currently in their upper 20s) practically grew up with the Internet the way I grew up with the Apple ][ and the Atari ST and the Amiga.
I’ve told many, many people this: When we started Kuentos people would ask what our product or service was. We’d say, “we are an Internet service provider. You use our service to get on the Internet.” In those days the next question was “what’s ‘Internet’?” (not even “what is the Internet?”) And a lot of our first customers were Compuserve (anybody remember that?) and AOL users looking to reduce their dialup bills. After a while they’d come back and the conversation would go like this:
“You guys offer email with this Internet service I’m getting from you, right?”
“Yeah”
“So, I could drop my AOL/CompuServe account and get email from you, right?”
“Yeah”
