global climate change: consensus?

December 20, 2007

I read “State of Fear” by M. Crichton a while back where basically the plot of the novel was that environmental extremists had cooked up the global-warming-caused-by-humans idea in order to push their agenda. (Or, at least, they had latched on to it very heavily and actively kept down dissenting viewpoints, in contradiction of scientific principals of openness.) I kept wondering if he’d constructed this just as a plot device, or if he really believed that the science was bad. At the end of the book he confirms that he’s unconvinced that global warming is caused by CO2 levels rising, or that we (humans) can seriously affect the change.

Anyway, since then, I’ve kept my ears/eyes open for dissenting views and thinking “maybe that Crichton guy ain’t so smart after all.”

Then I found this link.
